China Hosts World’s First Humanoid Robot Fighting Competition
Hangzhou, China has made history by organizing the world’s first international humanoid robot fighting championship. The groundbreaking event, arranged by China Media Group (CMG) and reported by CGTN in partnership with TV BRICS, captured the attention of both technology enthusiasts and sports fans worldwide.
The competition consisted of two main segments: a demonstration and the competitive bouts. During the demonstration, humanoid robots displayed their skills in both solo and group routines, highlighting advances in balance, speed, and technical ability.
In the main event, operators controlled their robots in real-time through a specialized control system. The fights were structured into three rounds, each lasting two minutes. Points were awarded based on accuracy and striking techniques: one point for a successful punch and three points for a kick. A knockdown resulted in a five-point penalty, and any robot unable to stand within eight seconds was instantly disqualified.
Lu Xin and his robot came out victorious, achieving knockouts in all three final rounds and impressing both the onsite crowd and viewers worldwide.
To enhance realism, professional athletes participated in the robot’s training phase. They wore motion sensors during training, generating data that was then used to develop sophisticated AI algorithms. This allowed the robots to mimic complex punches such as hooks and uppercuts, replicating authentic combat situations.
This innovative competition in Hangzhou hints at a future where humanoid robots engage not only in industrial and service work but also in competitive sports that demand agility, strength, and strategic thinking. The event paves the way for new forms of sport and entertainment, blending martial arts excitement with advancements in robotics and AI.
As robotics technology evolves, such competitions may one day be as popular as traditional sporting events, inspiring engineers, athletes, and audiences around the world.
