People Obsessed with the New Sex Trend 'Shallowing'

There’s a new term making the rounds in bedrooms everywhere, and chances are you may have tried it already—knowingly or not. Meet shallowing, the rising intimacy trend that's winning praise online. Some people call it “amazing when done right”, while others simply gush “I love it!!!” But what exactly is shallowing?

At its core, shallowing is about gently stimulating the entrance of the vagina using the tip of a finger, penis, tongue, or a sex toy, rather than focusing on deep penetration. This approach targets the sensitive nerve endings near the vaginal opening, which many find intensely pleasurable. Considered a form of outercourse, it moves away from traditional penetrative sex in favor of a new kind of sensuality.

The benefits aren’t just anecdotal. A 2021 study from Indiana University School of Medicine and the sexual wellness platform OMGYES surveyed 4,270 women worldwide. More than 83% of participants reported that shallowing helped them reach orgasm more often or more intensely, making it one of the most effective, yet underrated, techniques out there.

But shallowing is just one of the trends catching the spotlight. Another emerging area is the power of music in the bedroom. Researchers from Northwestern University found that a rhythm of about 119 beats per minute—like Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack”—can sync partners and heighten arousal. Erotic playlists are fast becoming as essential as candles or massage oils for creating ambiance.

Sexual wellness is also expanding beyond the bedroom and into the world of travel. Wellness retreats centered around intimacy, connection, and relaxation are growing in popularity. These experiences often include yoga, meditation, and relationship workshops within stigma-free, supportive environments where people can openly discuss and explore pleasure.

As psychosexual therapist Kate Moyle puts it, “We’re starting to see more mainstream conversations about intimacy. It’s all about self-confidence, connection, and understanding what works for you.”

Another trend on the rise is supplements targeting sexual wellness. Ingredients like ginseng, vitamin B3, and L-arginine are under investigation for their potential to boost blood flow, libido, and performance. However, experts caution that it’s always best to consult your doctor before adding new supplements to your routine.

Together, these developments reflect a big shift: sexual wellness is no longer a taboo or niche topic. From shallow entrance-focused techniques like shallowing to curated playlists and pleasure-focused retreats, the conversation is coming out of the shadows and into the spotlight—right where it belongs.
